The swimming pool can be a dangerous place: Kids can get sunburned or slip on the deck. But can the pool get you pregnant? A Polish mother thinks so.

A Polish mother is suing a hotel in Egypt with the claim that her daughter of 13 years became pregnant after swimming in the communal pool.

The mother, named as Magdalena Kwiatkowska claims her teenage daughter conceived a baby from stray sperm and is demanding compensation from the hotel.

A travel industry source said: “She is determined to go ahead with the case.

“The mother is adamant that her daughter didn’t meet any boys while she was there.”

Authorities for tourism in Warsaw, Poland, have confirmed they received the complaint.

Britain has been ranked as the 24th worst country in Europe for child wellbeing. Only Malta, Romania, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Latvia were ranked below.

The Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) ranked the Netherlands as the top place to raise children in Europe, followed by Norway and Sweden.

Recently, the UK came last in the child wellbeing survey, and it is thought that with the economic situation in England, there is a danger that they will again fall in the league table.

Chief Executive of CPAG, Kate Green, said “The report shows a clear link between high levels of child wellbeing and low levels of child poverty. If we fail to protect families during the downturn, progress on child wellbeing could go into reverse,” she asserts.

The British scored the best in the quality of children’s relationships, and were ranked 15th out of 29. This described how well children were building friendships in the classroom and at home with their family.

Below is the full results of the child wellbeing table released for Spring 2009 by the CPAG:
