Shocking C-Section delivery rate of a quarter of all babies in England

A quarter of babies delivered in England are by C-Section. This figure is double the World Health Organisation’s recommended rate and described as a, “serious cause for concern” by LibDem health spokesman Norman Lamb.
Almost 25% or around 155,000 babies last year were delivered via caesarean section despite efforts to reduce the number of surgical deliveries.

Fetal kick charts ‘unreliable’ and should be discontinued

Fetal kick charts have been used since the 1970s, but new research finds they ‘are of no benefit to reducing poor outcomes in low-risk pregnant women.’
Research published in the journal The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist suggests that mothers rely on fetal heart rate and routine examinations with a doctor rather than depend on fetal kick charts.

Half of Cot Deaths as a result of bed sharing with babies

The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID) latest evidence shows bed sharing or, “Co-Sleeping” is responsible for approximately half of cot deaths.
