Denise Van Outen Dropped from Talent Show Due to Pregnancy

Denise said that she felt ‘let down and disappointed’ at being dropped from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest BBC talent show due to her being pregnant.

Denise, who is 6 months pregnant with her first child, confirmed the news that she has been dropped from the talent show and it has to do with her being pregnant. She is set to be replaced by Charlotte Church, who is 12 years younger than Denise. The talent show will search for the next Dorothy for Lloyd Webber’s production of The Wizard of Oz.

Denise recently posed with other celebrity mums-to-be like Natasha Kalinsky to help promote the Sports Relief Bumps And Babies Mile. At the event she said that she felt “fit and healthy” and would be working rigth up until she delivers the baby.

The talent show is due to start next month and would end in May, which would make Denise 8 months pregnant at the end of the show. She remarked at the event, “I am not ill, I am just having a baby. I feel disappointed and let down. Being pregnant is not an issue for me, I feel fit and healthy. I am absolutely happy to carry on working. I am here today at the Bumps And Babies Mile today which shows I feel fine.”

When she was asked if being pregnant had been discussed with her BBC bosses and she replied, “It was mentioned to me that being pregnant was an issue.”

Denise actually met her husband Lee Meade on the last talent show she was on and according to a source close to Van Outen, “Denise did not take it for granted that she was returning, but really hoped she would get the job.” The source also revealed that Denise was in shock when a member of the production team told her, “You’re pregnant, so of course there’s no way you can do the show. This was then repeated to her by another producer.”

According to a BBC spokesperson, when it comes to Over the Rainbow, “None of the other five previous judges will be taking part. We expect to be revealing the new judging line up in the next few days.”
