Man To Be Charged For Attacking Two-Week-Old Baby

Paul Hadden of Claydon, has been charged with grievous bodily harm on a two-week old baby.

The 26-year-old attacked the newborn baby on 14 December in Needham Market, Suffolk.

The baby girl suffered serious injuries, and was in intensive care for some time at Addenbrook’s Hospital, Cambridge.

Hadden is to appear at Bury St Edmunds Court on 3 March to be prosecuted.

Liam Heyes shook his baby girl to death

A Liverpool court heard how father, Liam Heyes was overwhelmed with his crying 17-week-old baby daughter, lost his temper and shook her to death

Liam Heyes, 20, realised what he had done and alerted a neighbor. Baby Layla was then taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, but died the next day. He denies manslaughter.

Prosecuting, John McDermott QC, said Mr Heyes, was left alone with his newborn baby girl, “Layla Pike” after his girlfriend, 32, went out to collect her giro.

He said Heyes lost his temper because Layla was crying, but did not mean to kill her.

He said: “We don’t allege it was a thought through, deliberate, cold blooded act.

“But more likely a momentary lapse of temper at the crying of a very young child resulting in shaking, or possibly a throw, which resulted in terrible consequences for Layla Pike.”

Outlining Layla’s injuries, Mr McDermott said she had severe damage to her brain and spinal cord due to a lack of blood and oxygen.

She also had bleeding on the surface of the brain, severe bleeding in both eyes and nerve fibre damage to her neck.

“The doctors found an episode of bleeding in Layla’s brain which wasn’t associated with what happened that morning,” he said.

“According to one or more of the experts it looks like it happened between two and four days before this.”

Mr Heyes told police he was in the kitchen of the family home he shared with Ms Pike and five other children when Layla screamed on 18 October last year.

He claimed he rushed to the living room where he found her unconscious in her baby bouncer.

He said he picked her up to pat her back but put her on a two-seater sofa returning to the kitchen to extinguish a cigarette.

It was then the baby fell 14 inches onto a wooden floor sustaining the injuries, he told police.

The trial is expected to last five weeks and was adjourned until Wednesday.

         

Mums-To-Be Will Get £190 From April 2009

As from April 2009, mums-to-be who are at least 25 weeks pregnant, will be able to claim a one-off, tax free ‘Health in Pregnancy Grant’.

The payment from H M Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will be £190 for each pregnancy if the due date is on or after the 6th April 2009.

The grant is to help UK expectant mothers prepare for the birth of their child, and the same amount will be paid irrelevant to income.

Applications will need to be returned to HMRC within 21 days of the form being signed by a doctor to qualify.

         

Mel C Baby - Melanie Chisholm gives birth to a baby girl

“Mel C” or Melanie Chisholm, 35, the former Spice Girl starlet has given birth to her first baby. The now successful solo singer and partner Thomas Starr welcomed their new baby, “Scarlet Starr” into the wide world.

This now completes a baby for all the spice girls:

• Geri Halliwell has a daughter, Bluebell, who is two

• Emma Bunton is mum to 18-month-old son Beau

• Mel B has two daughters Phoenix-Chi, nine, and 22-month-old Angel Iris

• Victoria Beckham has three sons - Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz

Weighing 8lbs 3oz Mel C said her new baby is, “Beautiful”. Details about the birth are still to be released.

Mel C and Thomas Starr are due to marry this July after dating for six years.

         

Woman Jailed For Buying Baby For $6,000

A Missouri woman was jailed for buying a baby for $6,000 in Washington county.

Denise Novotny, 36, is believed to have purchased the baby girl from a Kewaskum couple in December 2004.

Parents David and Angela Schmidt are thought to have signed a surrogate contract in an attempt to make the exchange appear legal.

Novotny has been charged with child abduction and illegal adoption and remains behind bars in a Missouri jail.

Although the Schmidts have admitted that the girl was theirs, they have not asked for their daughter to be returned.

Currently it is against the law to sell a baby, although adoptive parents can contribute financially towards maternity clothes, living expenses, birthing classes, or give the natural parents a gift.

For an adoption to be legal, parents are required to appear before a judge to terminate their rights.

“Real surrogacy can be a good option for people who are experiencing infertility and it’s a shame something like this happens because then it just gives it a bad name,” says Donna Strayer, Director of Mequon’s Adoption Services.

No charges have been made against the couple for selling the baby, although the case remains open.

         

Kimora Lee Simmons Shocks Father-To-Be

Kimora Lee Simmons has recently announced that she is six months pregnant with a baby boy.

The mother of two already has daughters, Ming (6) and Aoki (9) with ex-husband Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam Records.

Djimon Hounsou, star of “Blood Diamond”, has been dating Lee Simmons since 2007. He was left speechless after hearing the news that he was to become a first-time father later this year.

The fashion designer and ex-model told reporters at New York Fashion Week that she had been craving some unhealthy food, “On the way to the show, I had to have a slice of pizza — New York pizza. I think I’m going to have another one after the show, too.”

         

Nicole Richie pregnant with Baby number two

Joel Madden has revealed on the Good Charlotte blog that Nicole Richie, 27, is pregnant with their second child.

Harlow Winter Kate will be getting a, “Big Sister”. Joel asks on his blog, “What’s better than winning an Oscar?”. He continues writing, “God has truly blessed my family. Hope you’re all feeling as good as I am right now”.

Nicole Richie and daughter Harlow Winter Kate spent much of the week at NY, visiting the fashion shows. Arriving back in L.A on Friday.

The babies due date was not provided.

Richard Branson’s baby death talks to Piers Morgan

Sir Richard Branson, 58, has talked to Piers Morgan about the death of his first baby.

Described the experience as, “Horrendous” in an emotionally stirring interview that’s going to air at 10 p.m on ITV1 next Sunday.

His first daughter Clare Sarah with his second wife Joan, was born three months prematurely in 1979. Clare Sarah died in an incubator. The couple have been together for over three decades and went on to have two more children, Holly and Sam. In the interview, Richard believes Joan never fully recovered from Clare’s death saying: “The mending process takes time and it didn’t really start until Holly was born 18 months later … but I suspect for the mother it’s never completely completed.”

Richard Branson also tells Piers Morgan how near the Virgin Group came to bankruptcy the day after he launched Virgin Airlines. A bank manager visiting his home insisted he immediately sorted out his overdraft.
Richard described forcing the bank manager out of his home, saying: “Not a wise thing to do to your bank manager”.

         

Twins at 15 - Samantha Humphries

A 15 year old has given birth to twins. Samantha Humphries became impregnated at just 14 by her boyfriend of 15 Daniel Sargent.

Apparently she was unaware of being pregnant until she felt movement inside her and went to the family planning clinic. By then Samantha was about 22 weeks pregnant.

Janet Gilbert, her mother, said: “My first reaction was shock, especially when they said it was twins. But what can you do?”

Jane, said of the couple, “Daniel stayed here at our house the odd night and of course, it happened. You can’t stop young couples when they’re courting - if they weren’t here they would just go somewhere else.”

Liam and Ryan, the twins are currently still in hospital after being born three months prematurely. Samantha said, “We love our sons and we can’t wait to get them home.” The twins are being supported by ventilators weighing 3lb and 2lb 9oz. The average weight of a baby delivered on the due date is 7-9 lb’s.

         

Mueller and Sheen plan charity baby shower

Premature contractions forced Brooke Mueller, 31, into hospital earlier this week, a representative said Brooke Mueller is, “At home doing fine.”

The couple will be going ahead with their planned baby shower on Saturday. Brooke is due to give birth in April to twins

Charlie Sheen, 43, was in Las Vegas at the time of Brooke’s complications promoting his DaVinci Collection clothing line. He later joined his wife at the hospital.

Apart from the shower, the two are also busy putting the finishing touches on the twins’ nursery. Charlie was reported saying to People magazine, “If I had a room like that growing up at any point, I would have been over the moon.”

Brooke Mueller and Charlie Sheen’s plans for the baby shower are to donate many of the gifts to charity.
