Voluntary recall of baby food by US company Nurture, Inc.
A voluntary recall of baby food products has been issued by Nurture, Inc. upon worries of bacteria contamination of certain products.
After the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public warning late Wednesday, New York-based baby food company Nurture, Inc. issued a voluntary recall of HAPPYTOT Stage 4 and HAPPYBABY Stage 1 and Stage 2 baby food pouches.
The FDA received a consumer complaint about a swollen pouch, prompting the FDA to issue the warning. Further investigation of Nurture, Inc. facilities found additional food pouches that were either leaking or swollen. The FDA is testing the product, distributed across the United States, for bacterial contamination.
Nurture’s CEO, Shazi Visram, posted details of the recall on the company Web site.
“There have been no illnesses at all related to this voluntary recall, and while the packaging defect could lead to the development of spoilage, there is no danger or health threat involved based on our thorough investigation and lab results. We’re asking that you don’t feed these products to your child and instead return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. We are voluntarily recalling all packages produced in the last batch, of which we believe there to be a packaging defect that could have affected less than half of one percent.”
Recalled products include:
• Apricot Sweet Potato, NET WT. 3.5 OZ. (99g), UPC 8 52697 00136 1;
• Banana, peach, coconut & prunes, NET WT. 4.22 OZ. (120g), UPC 8 52697 00131 6;
