Britain’s famous surrogate mother pregnant with eighth child

Britain’s prolific surrogate mother, Jill Hawkins, revealed that she is pregnant with at least one more child.

Jill Hawkins is at it again, this time playing surrogate to at least her eighth baby, if not more.

Hawkins was “absolutely ecstatic” when she found out last night that at least one of the embryos implanted in her womb was growing. The 45-year-old surrogate mother had two embryos implanted in her womb and now is waiting to discover whether it will be a single pregnancy or a multiple pregnancy.

“There’s a good chance it could be a multiple pregnancy,” Hawkins told the Daily Mail today. “I hope it is. I have never had twins before so I’d love to have that experience.”

Hawkins started her surrogate career in 1991 when she approached charity Childlessness Overcome by Surrogacy. Despite some reservations, she volunteered herself as a surrogate and gave birth to Baby Lucy in August of 1992.

Since then, she’s played surrogate to six more, all conceived from her own eggs and artificially inseminated sperm. This time, however, Hawkins chose to have inseminated embryos implanted.

“My eggs have just packed up which is not unusual for a woman of my age,” she said. “I was worried that because my eggs aren’t as strong as they were that the rest of me might not be up to it either. But I’ve had scans and there’s nothing wrong with my womb so being a host should not be a problem.”

Hawkins is being paid almost 12,000 pounds for pregnancy “expenses” by a 32-year-old mother of one who couldn’t conceive anymore due to health complications. The woman and her husband made the decision to freeze embryos and find a surrogate. Hawkins, who had previously said she was going to retire from surrogate care, caved and accepted.

“I love being pregnant,” she said. “It’s a compulsion I suppose and I really miss it when I’m not pregnant.”

Hawkins will likely determine if she is pregnant with one or two children later this month.
