jay_zRapper and hip hop mogul Jay Z is excited over the fact that he could soon be a dad.

According to a source that is close to Jay Z and his wife Beyonce, the couple have started trying for a little one. They have been married for 18 months and apparently Jay Z is ready to be a father although Beyonce is still leery about having a child.

“He’s normally very secretive but Jay-Z is so excited about the prospect of becoming a dad, he just let slip that they’re trying for a baby,” said his friend.

On the other hand Beyonce is keeping the baby plans under wraps. She recently said, “It’s not time for that yet. But definitely there will be a time. I want to be a great mother, the kind of mother that I have. I want the same bond that I had with my mom and that would be enough for me.”

Katie Price said her reasoning for leaving the jungle on I’m a Celebrity was because she missed her kids. Katie was able to get out of her contract and headed home to reunite with her kids.

katie_price_im_a_celebrity_2009It has been more than two weeks since Katie has seen her three kids, Harvey,7, Junior, 4, and Princess Tiaamii, 2. According to her contract she was supposed to be in Australia for one more week until the 5th of December, but apparently she has gotten out of her contract and returned to the UK today to reunite with her kids.

The model posted this message on Twitter yesterday, “At last I got out my contract I’m coming home to my children soooo excited.”

The three children had been staying with their father and Katie’s ex Peter Andre while she was in Australia for the show.

It is also being reported that Katie and her ex-husband Peter are going to be spending some time together this Christmas season. Katie has called it off with her boyfriend Alex Reid even after he flew to Australia to be with her.

A source told the Daily Star, “Peter has always been a family man and until he met Katie and they had the children he had never really celebrated Christmas. He doesn’t want his kids to miss out on that and will consider anything to keep them happy. It will be hard for him to be close to Kate but they are bound to have a lot to talk about.”

Peter denied this statement on his Twitter page and says that he doesn’t have any plans for Christmas right now with Katie.

Stuffed meerkat toy used as surrogate mother by orphaned babies

A stuffed toy resembling a meerkat is being used as a surrogate mother for five baby meerkats in Oldbury.

baby_meerkatsMom’s come in very different shapes and sizes, but the current mother of five orphaned meerkat babies is unique in that it is a ten-inch-tall stuffed animal with a hot water bottle inside.

The “mother” was the brainchild of Steve Rowlands, owner of Tropical Inc., an animal rescue center in Oldbury, West Midlands.

The baby meerkats lost their mother, Anika, due to complications with the birthing process and advanced age.

Rowlands told the Telegraph: “The babies are a month old now and they lost their mum just two days after they were born. We bought the toy to try and lessen the trauma for them and try and make things as natural as possible.”

“We put it in with them, and they just snuggled up to it like it was their mother. To recreate the warmth that Anika would have given off we also found a small hot water bottle we got the right temperature.”

“They now assume that the toy is their mum and they’re acting completely normally around it. Of course every hour we have to feed them milk ourselves, but use miniature little bottles which recreate how they would get it from mum.”

Rowlands explained that the surrogate arrangement is only temporary. Meerkats — popularized in the 2005 BBC show “Meerkat Manor” — typically are weaned away from their mother after approximately six weeks. Rowlands hopes to place the babies with their father after a six-week period.

“Until they are a bit older there is the possibility that the father might think they were not safe and kill them. The way we have done this with the surrogate mum has been absolutely ideal.”

Minister backs creation of Royal College of Social Work

Minister Ed Balls says the government will announce the intent to create a Royal College of Social Work to create more ‘professional standards’ in the industry.

A report due to be delivered on Tuesday by the U.K.’s social work task force is expected to recommend a national college of social work be created to provide more uniform standards across the profession in the U.K. The task force is also expected to recommend clearer career paths and higher rates of pay to help retain top-quality social workers in the field.

However, Children’s Secretary Ed Balls has already been working with Justice Secretary Jack Straw to determine how quickly such a national college could be upgraded to royal college status.

In an interview with The Guardian, Balls said: “I think there has been a culture of not enough voice, not enough representation and not enough of the social work profession itself shaping the future, saying ‘these should be our professional standards, this is how we should do it and this is how we should reform.’”

“We will support the national college to become a Royal College of Social Workers in the speediest way we can.”

Balls expects that a royal college would act as a beacon of reform in the system, providing much-needed standards and probationary periods to workers entering into the profession.

“The government, employers and the profession as a whole have never take[n] a sufficiently long-term strategic approach,” he told The Guardian. “This is a moment we have never had before to recognize the importance of social work in terms of the potential for the profession and for employers.”

The government expects to announce its intentions for a royal college no more than a few hours after the task force, headed by Moira Gibb, releases its report on Tuesday.

The task force was created in part due to the Baby P scandal. The baby, Peter Connelly, died in August 2007 at the age of 17 months after suffering numerous injuries from Tracey Connelly, Steven Barker and Jason Owen. A huge public outcry occurred when it was found that the abuse had happened over an eight-month period that saw over 60 visits from social workers and police.

Authorities remove container filled with cement and body of baby

The Sunset Park flophouse was raided by Feds and police late Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of the ringleaders of the sex trafficking business.  Upon searching the property, authorities found a 10-gallon Rubbermaid container filled with cement.

The body of a two-month-old baby boy sealed inside the concrete was revealed by x-rays of the container.

The ringleaders appeared in Brooklyn Federal Court Wednesday night.  Domingo Salazar, 33, and Norma Mendez, 32, face sex trafficking charges and could face additional counts. The illegal immigrants from Mexico allegedly forced a young woman into prostitution, abused her and barred her from getting medical care for the infant when he fell ill last January.

It is unknown at this time what charges, if any, will be filed in connection with the death of the infant.  When the baby died, Salazar and Mendez forced the mom to dispose of the body in the container.

According to a federal affidavit, the couple launched the prostitution ring out of their New York apartment in April 2007.  Salazar met the young woman in Mexico, got her pregnant and smuggled her into the United States.  The woman gave birth to Salazar’s son in New York in November 2007, according to officials.  Salazar forced her to sell sex to “repay” a $2,500 smuggling fee.

Special Agent in Charge James Hayes, Jr., of Immigration and Customs Enforcement described the young woman, “She was in bad shape.”  She was driven across the city and made to service up to 25 clients a night.

The woman was frequently abused by Salazar and Mendez who punched her in the stomach, slashing her in the arm, hitting her in the head with a brick and bashing her in the face with a wooden board, according to officials.

The young woman is now recovering after being rescued from the 40th Street home after investigators received a tip about a brothel.  The woman’s name has not been released. Other immigrant woman were also forced into prostitution but they have not been located.

“The trafficking of human beings and sex slavery are unconscionable in this day and age and will not be tolerated,” said Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Benton Campbell.

Salazar and Mendez face 15 years to life in prison if convicted.

Rajo Devi the World’s oldest mother has celebrated her baby’s first birthday on Friday in Haryana, a state in northern India.

World's oldest MotherLast year Rajo Devi garnered global attention after successfully giving birth to a healthy baby girl through in-vitro fertility (IVF) treatment. For her 72-year-old husband, Bala Ram, it was third time lucky, having failed to become a father in two earlier marriages.

Rajo Devi said: ‘‘We’re happy to have a child and also performed ‘Jalwa’ (first birthday celebration), a ceremony held only for a male child in Haryana, on Friday,

“Life was miserable before the birth of child (Naveen Lohan). We read an advertisement on the technology (IVF) in a newspaper and decided to take its help. I took prescribed medicine for the birth of the baby,” said Rajo.

The doctors who assisted the elderly couple through IVF success said that advances in technology has helped many childless couples fulfill their dream.

Dr. Anurag Bishnoi, said: “The technology helps the creation of embryo outside the body and it is transferred into the body at appropriate time. This technology has been revolutionized in last few years due to various developments. As a result success rate has increased. Earlier, the success rate was 30 per cent, now it is 50 per cent,”

“We have waited for more than 40 years for this child, ” says Rajo Devi.

“It was God’s gift to us that she arrived.”

She also says that she plans to breastfeed her “for at least three years”. And, who knows, maybe she will.

Oklahoma Baby Thrives After New Esophagus Surgery

Daniela Cruz is thriving after University of Oklahoma surgeons used a new surgical technique to repair her esophagus.  She was born with a congenital birth defect known as esophageal atresia.  Her upper esophagus failed to connect with her lower esophagus, but rather her airway or windpipe.

baby_esophagusDaniela was born on November 4, and her parents quickly knew something was wrong.  Daniela couldn’t eat without choking.  She was transported from a Lawton hospital to The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Ketina Cruz, mother of the 6-pound baby, said she has faith in the doctors.  “I was so relieved she was geting the help she needed.”  Daniela’s father, Michael Cruz, is a staff sergeant stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton.

Prior to her surgery, Daniela had to be fed intravenously. The esophageal birth defect occurs in about one in 4,000 live births.

During a news conference earlier this week, OU Health Sciences Center physician Niki Puffinbarger said, “It’s a rare and lethal condition but completely curable with surgery.”

Instead of performing traditional surgery that opens the chest wall and leaves a large scar with possible chest deformation, OU surgeons opted for their first thoracoscopic surgery to repair Daniela’s esophageal defect.  The surgery require only a tiny incision in the baby’s chest to insert a camera and surgical instruments.

Michael Cruz happily reports that his daughter was able to begin taking a bottle within days after the surgery.

“She was ready to eat,” he said.  “She was pretty eager.”

Daniela is now three weeks old and eating normally.  She spent her first Thanksgiving at home in Lawton with her two teenage siblings.

Comatose Mom with H1N1 Delivers and Loses Premature Baby

Claudia Hernandez lies in a coma at Wellington Regional Medical Center with swine flu, not knowing that she has given birth to her baby son or that her first child has died. Today her child is being buried.

wellington_regional_medical_centerThe 22-year-old paralegal has been at Wellington Regional Medical Center in a coma since November 18.  She was diagnosed with H1N1 flu at the same time, and doctors delivered Jayden Amaury Dinvil, a month premature.  The infant lived five days and died on Sunday.

As the family mourns the loss of Jayden, they continue to hold vigil for Claudia.

“It’s been difficult,” Jadelyne Baptiste said.  “They gave her a 10 percent chance of living.”

Baptiste’s brother, Renald Dinvil, lives with Claudia in Boynton Beach, Florida.  Claudia began having fever on Sunday and sought medical help several times, but was told each time that she was just tired.

“Her fingers and toes started going black.  We knew that meant she wasn’t getting any oxygen, ” said Baptiste. “They (the doctors) said the baby wasn’t going to make it because it wasn’t getting oxygen to its brain and had a hole in its lungs.”

The family was told that the baby died because he was delivered too early.  It is not known if the child has been declared a direct victim of H1N1 flu.

Wellington Regional Medical Center and nearly every hospital in Palm Beach County have reported H1N1 cases in the past week or two according to the county health department spokesperson Tim O’Connor.  He could not confirm that the agency had been notified of any deaths similar to what the Hernandez family has described.

In July, Aubrey Opdyke was diagnosed with H1N1 at Wellington Regional, and delivered Parker Christine.  That infant’s death was also attributed to premature delivery rather than directly to the H1N1 flu.
