Police Clueless One Year On After Baby Abandoned At Casino

One year on, police are no closer to discovering who abandoned a newborn boy on Mother’s Day in the trash at the Excalibur hotel-casino.

Authorities have said that they have “hit a brick wall” since the child was discovered May 11, 2008.

Lt. Lew Roberts from Las Vegas homicide said “We never got one tip. We never got one call. We never got anything,”

“Which leads us to believe the person is a tourist from out of state.”

The baby boy was found alive in a restroom near some elevators by a hotel employee. He had been wrapped in a pillow case and placed inside a hotel gift back, he still had his placenta and umbilical cord attached to his body.

Although investigators had studied over 150 hours of video footage from surveillance cameras a the scene, they were unable to find any leads.

“You can imagine the amount of people coming and going from that bathroom at one time,” Roberts explained.

“People carrying suitcases and bags from gift shops, things like that. That never yielded any information for us.”

“Cases like this are always sad and mind-boggling,”

They had also investigated whether an ambulance had been called to the casino, and whether any of the employees may of given birth that day.

It is the first time that the Clark County Fire Department have received a child under the safe haven law in Nevada. The law allows parents to leave their babies at designated areas such as fire stations, hospitals or police stations within 30 days of a childs birth.
