Coronation Street Star Feared Telling Producers She Was Pregnant
Actress Samia Smith, from Coronation Street, has revealed how she dreaded telling the producers that she was pregnant.
Smith, who plays Maria Connor, was the tenth member of the cast to become pregnant in the last 18 months.
She told the Daily Star Sunday “I was really scared about telling work because of all the people that have been on maternity leave this past year,”
She feared that her bosses would be upset that they would have to change her character’s current storyline with Tony Gordon, who is a killer.
“But they were completely fine. We had to speed things up a little with the Maria and Tony story, but the ending’s still the same.”
It will be her first child with husband, Matthew. Her news was announced a week after her father lost his life from cancer.
She also said that since becoming pregnant, she had developed a severe craving for doughnuts, and said:”I can’t stop eating them. I’m going to turn into one at this rate.”
