Natasha Kaplinsky returns to Five after baby

Natasha Kaplinsky,36, is returning to Five less than six months after having a bouncing baby boy. She is expected to return in a part-time capacity.

Kaplinsky happily announced she was pregnant just six weeks after the move from BBC to Five.

It was a deal reported to be worth a cool £1 million and she made her debut at Five in February covering news. Kaplinsky proudly said she was not worth her reputed salary shortly after joining.

One million viewers, almost double the usual audience tuned into Five to see Natasha Kaplinsky.

On leaving in August the presenter was still attracting 665,000 viewers for Five’s 5pm prime-time bulletin.

Kaplinsky gave birth to her son Arlo in September.

Lady Gives Birth In The Library

Here’s one for the books - on Tuesday a lady who had been riding a city bus gave birth inside the Public Library entrance.
The lady got off the bus and entered the building complaining that she did not feel well. It then became clear that she was in labour.

Staff and security guards at the Library in Denver (USA) assisted the lady until paramedics arrived at the scene.

The mother and newborn girl were then taken to Denver Health Medical Center.

Celeste Jackson, library spokeswoman, said that the staff want to send flowers: “That’s the first time we had a birth at the library,” she said. “It’s pretty exciting.”

Both mother and baby are in good condition. Due to privacy laws, they can not be named.

         

Brangelina Family Seen In Public For The First Time

Several years back, Angelina Jolie was quoted as saying that she wished for a ‘rainbow’ family of seven children of different religions and cultures.

Arriving to the screams of fans at Narita Airport, Tokyo, the actress and her partner Brad Pitt were just one child away from Angelina’s dream.

The celebrity family arrived in Japan early today with Brad Pitt carrying six-month-old Knox, and his twin sister Vivienne strapped to Angelina. They were joined with Pax (5), Zahara (4), Shiloh (2) and Maddox (7).

It is the first time the six-month-old twins have been seen in public, and the first time the entire ’Brangelina’ family has been photographed.

The Pitt-Jolie brood were arriving in Japan from LA for the premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Brad’s latest flick.

They are expected to return to the States next month for the Oscars, and have both been nominated for their most recent roles.

Knox and his father were both wearing grey jumpers and tweed flat caps. Shiloh and Zahara both held their blankies as they followed their parents through the airport.

Brad and Angelina are two of the highest earning stars of Hollywood, and last year negotiated the highest payout ever from a magazine for exclusive photos of the twins. One month after their birth a jaw dropping £7.5 million was donated to charity.

Miss Jolie has recently complained about the family’s hectic schedule: ‘Our kids are always packing. They like to pack - it’s a game in our house.

‘It can get very hard trying to find 20 minutes to close your eyes if you’ve been up since four in the morning. We travel so much, we never have to adjust. We change school time to four in the afternoon if we have to.’

Only time will tell if the couple will complete Angelina’s dream of seven kids - enough for the small football team she desires.

         

Octuplets born to California Woman

Dr Alejandro Vasquez and a medical team of 46 at the Bellflower hospital south of Los Angeles have had a long, hard, night.

The delivery of septuplets had gone to plan, beginning at 10.43am with Baby A, and ending with Baby G only four minutes later. What surprised the delivery team was octuplets.

The birth of octuplets to a California woman yesterday morning was just the second such event in US history. A Nigerian-born woman gave birth to eight live babies in Texas in 1998.

The six boys and two girls born yesterday, ranging from 1 pound 8 ounces to 3 pounds 4 ounces, were doing well, said doctors. Two were placed on ventilators, while a third needed oxygen. Each cried immediately after birth and all were expected to stay in hospital for at least two months.

The mother plans to breast-feed all eight babies, said doctors.

Little is known about the mother. She asked to be remain anonymous, and family members declined to speak to the media.

Multiple births, including the last recorded case of octuplets, are usually the result of using of fertility drugs, experts said. Though the doctors refused to comment on this.

The mother came under medical care in the 12th week of pregnancy, and was admitted to hospital and placed on bed rest at 23 weeks.

The only other case recorded of live octuplet births was in Mexico City in 1967. All eight babies unfortunately died within 14 hours.

         

Kiss of Life saves Baby four times

A young mum from Bristol saved her baby’s life four times after he stopped breathing by administering artificial resuscitation while being guided by paramedics over the phone.

Cordelia Nolan, a 25 year old driving instructor , said she was, “Petrified” when her 10-week premature baby, Emrys, lost his colour and turned blue.

Cordelia started resuscitation straight away and a cousin dialled 999 and relayed the operator’s instructions.

Cordelia managed to bring ten-week-old baby Emrys back to life four times, by pumping his chest and blowing air into his mouth.

The ordeal lasted for about ten minutes until an ambulance arrived and took Emrys to hospital. He’s now made a full recovery. A urine infection was found to be the cause of his seizure.

         

Lilly Allen claims she was a drug bait Baby

Lily Allen has claimed that dad Keith Allen used her, “Cute” looks as a baby to help to gain drug deals.

The singer, who sparked controversy recently surrounding cocaine use, alleged that actor Keith Allen would take her to Glastonbury as bait for selling drugs to music fans.

She told Spin: “I was a cute baby, which brought in a few customers, I suppose.”

Lilly also claimed that her dad would make her and her brother Alfie steal his ex-wife’s pots and pans so that he could sell them off.

“We’d sell them at Portobello Market. I discussed this with my mum a few months ago, and she thought he was stealing them for his flat, when actually he was stealing them for food money,” she said.

The 23-year-old is currently planning a trip to Afghanistan in the hope of bringing some richness to her “vacuous” life.

         

Babies test positive for MRSA at Wycombe Hospital

Babies at Wycombe Hospital have tested positive for the killer superbug MRSA, (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) it has been revealed.

Four babies have been quarantined after doctors treating them on the special care baby unit at the High Wycombe based hospital detected the disease.

Lee Jones, a spokesman for Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said the four had been colonised but not infected.

Lee continued: “All are well and receiving appropriate care to ensure they do not develop MRSA infection. At this stage we believe MRSA was brought into the unit via a baby transferred from another Trust. However we are looking into this further.”

“It is important to stress that the babies are not infected with MRSA but are carrying it on their skin, which is common in the general population.”

The unit is currently shut to new admissions, though the Trust says this is not because of the MRSA, (Pronounced as Mersa) issue.

         

Ronnie Wood denies pregnancy

Ekaterina Ivanova the 20-year-old Russian was pictured at the weekend in a bump hiding floaty outfit, this fueled rumours that she may be expecting a baby.

The pair issued a joint statement which read: “These are all ridiculous rumours and we would like to make it clear that Ekaterina is not pregnant.”

Very few expect the relationship to last, not least because of the age gap, but they have remained together and recently bought a puppy for the London home they share. Ivanova has said: “We didn’t mean to fall in love. You can’t choose who you fall in love with. People fall in love despite an age gap. I fancy him because of the person he is. I don’t think about his age or the fact he’s a Rolling Stone.”

Ronnie Wood, 61, left Jo his wife of 23 years, in July of this year.

         

Kelly Marie Pocock sentenced, “Cigarette Mum”

Kelly Marie Pocock, 24, whose three-year-old boy lit a cigarette butt and smoked it in full view of her has received a suspended jail sentence.

The smoking baby was filmed on a mobile phone and passed to social services by a concerned friend of the boy’s mother.

Kelly, a mother-of-three from South Wales, appeared in court for sentencing after pleading guilty to one count of cruelty to a child under 16 at a hearing last month.

Prosecutor Jonathan Rees told the Crown Court: “The video demonstrates the boy placing a cigarette into his mouth, lighting it with a lighter and sucking, drawing smoke clearly into the lungs and he seems to do it with some accomplishment.”

“It doesn’t cause him any discomfort. He is sat on a chair close to the mother, who is talking on the phone.”

“It is clear that the boy, at the age of three, knows what to do with a lighter and cigarette.”

After being charged, Pocock entered a guilty plea on the basis that she had not seen her son smoking before.

Judge John Curran said the case was one of the most “extraordinary” he had ever come across.

He said: “This is an appalling situation and I don’t see how, despite your basis of plea, you could have been unaware of the fact”.

He continued by saying that while the offence would normally cross the custody threshold, he did not want to cause her children any further emotional harm by separating them from their mother.

Judge Curran also acknowledged the “considerable efforts” Pocock had taken to improve the situation.

Pocock was sentenced to 40 weeks imprisonment, suspended for two years. He also imposed a 12-month supervision requirement.

         

Cute Babies - Only a woman knows

Females are much better at identifying a cute baby than men, according to University of St Andrews research released on Wednesday.Psychologists at the University used computer image manipulation to produce very subtle variations in baby faces.

They discovered that women could distinguish a “cute” baby — chubby cheeks, large forehead, big round eyes and button nose — far more easily than men, who struggled to spot the difference.

The researchers believe that cuteness sensitivity may be down to female hormones.

“We found that young women between 19-26 and (women aged) 45-51 years were more sensitive to differences in infant cuteness than men aged 19-26 and 53-60 years,” said Doctor Reiner Sprengelmeyer.

However, women aged 53-60 performed at the same level as men in determining the “cuteness” of the newborns.

“Because average age at menopause is 51 years in the UK, these findings suggest the possible involvement of reproductive hormones in cuteness sensitivity,” Sprengelmeyer said.

“We therefore compared cuteness discrimination in pre- and post-menopausal women of the same age alongside women taking and not taking oral contraceptives (progesterone and oestrogen).

“Pre-menopausal women and young women taking oral contraceptives — which raise hormone levels artificially — were more sensitive to variations of cuteness than their respective comparison groups.”

Psychologists at St Andrews conducted the research along with colleagues from the universities of Bern in Switzerland, Bielefeld in Germany and York in England.

They chose 10 images from a pool of more than 100 baby pictures and combined them into a composite of a “cute” baby face.

They repeated the process to create a less “cute” baby face.

The findings led them to suggest that cuteness sensitivity is modulated by female reproductive hormones.

Sprengelmeyer said: “Given that cuteness is considered an indicator of being young, helpless, and in need of care, we hypothesise that the ability to detect small variations in the degree of cuteness may have evolved to guide the allocation of necessary maternal resources to the infant.”

Further research will explore whether cuteness sensitivity is implicated in post-natal depression.
