Bethenny Frankel Introduces Her Daughter Bryn

The Real Housewives of New York star reveals the first pictures of her daughter Bryn, who was born on May 8.

Bethenny Frankel revealed what it was like when her daughter decided to make her entrance into the world 5 weeks early. She says that she woke up her husband Jason Hoppy at 6am to let him know that her water broke. After calling the doctor she told him to pack up the bags, but apparently Jason got a little too excited and had other plans. Jason started calling friends and family and tell them, “Her water broke — we’re having a baby!” Bethenny shot back, “We don’t have a baby. We have a puddle.” Looking back, she laughs, “I told him to get a pen and paper and get organized!”

The couple arrived at the hospital and Bethenny says, “All I wanted was a bagel and the doctor [told me] I couldn’t eat. And for two days, I couldn’t.”

Frankel was in labor for around 30 hours before her doctor decided that a C-section would be the best course of action. Frankel says, “She came out like a little doll. It was amazing.”

The couple decided to name their daughter Bryn after Jason’s brother Bryan who passed away in a car accident 19 years ago. “They used to call him Bryn as a nickname,” she explains. “When Jason told me, I thought that would be a great name.”

They decided to keep the name of their daughter a secret from friends and family and after tell Jason’s mom what her name was Bethenny says that his mom was “hysterically crying,” and couldn’t believe that they kept it a secret the whole time.

Bryn weighed in at 4lbs 11oz and had to stay in the NIVU for 4 days until she was allowed to come home. Bethenny says that she is up every three hours to breastfeed while “Jason is the burper and diaper changer.”

Bethenny says, “We’re so thankful and lucky to have a healthy baby.”

Bryn is the first baby for Bethenny and Jason, who married a few months ago.

Woman who gave birth while driving receives gifts from GM

A Minnesota woman who gave birth while driving her Chevrolet last week has been given gifts of baby supplies by GM.

Amanda McBride and husband Joseph Phillips never quite expected to get the media attention they did after the events of May 19. And now General Motors has given them a little bit more.

A representative called the Minnesota couple yesterday to congratulate them on their new child, Joseph Dominick Phillips, who was born while mother Amanda McBride was driving her 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt. The couple was offered a year’s supply of diapers, two child safety seats for the car, a stroller and other baby supplies.

“We knew the Cobalt was designed to deliver its occupants safely, but never did we expect a delivery quite like this,” said Chevrolet’s product marketing director Margaret Brooks in a press release. “From everyone at Chevrolet, we’d like to congratulate Amanda and Joseph on the newest addition to their family.

“Unfortunately, there is no section in the Cobalt driver’s manual on how to change a diaper, but we’re sure they’ll do just fine,” added Brooks.

McBride, 29, left work early late in the evening of May 18 when she felt contractions coming on. She quickly drove home to pick up her husband and began driving to North County Regional Hospital, according to a report by the Bemidji Pioneer. McBride was forced to drive as her husband Joseph is prone to seizures and is not able to drive.

Close to the hospital, McBride told her husband to grab the wheel. “And then the baby just came right out,” she said. “I was just sitting on the seat, and he just slid out. It really wasn’t bad at all.”

A week later, the couple has been adjusting to the media attention they’ve received, fielding numerous interview requests in that time. “We’ve totaled more than 200 minutes on our [cell phones] in three days,” McBride said.

         

Baby survives after pram rolls directly in front of train

A baby in Melbourne, Australia has ‘miraculously’ survived a pram tumble in front of a train entering Tooronga station.

“All she [the grandmother] can recall is she saw the pram on the platform and then next time she turned around she saw it on the tracks.”

Those were the words of Kate Jessop, a paramedic called to the scene of an accident yesterday at Melbourne’s Tooronga metro station. Jessop, interviewed by The Independent, said that it was “amazing” that the 15-month-old boy survived the incident with only a few scratches.

The boy’s grandmother was at the station yesterday with the toddler and his three-year-old brother, when she became briefly distracted by something. It was long enough that the pram the toddler was in began to slowly roll towards the edge of the platform. When the grandmother noticed, it was too late.

The pram was dragged eight to 10 meters despite the best efforts of the driver, who quickly engaged the emergency brake. “All my instincts just kicked in, with the emergency brake,” driver Steve Ryan told the Herald Sun.

“I just watched the pram going under. All I was concerned about was the baby in the pusher.”

Jessop said that she was surprised at how few injuries the boy suffered. “I was assuming the worst when we received the call and had awful pictures in my head of a child underneath a train,” she told The Independent.

“The one-year-old has sustained some minor facial bruising and some grazes to the head, but appears to be otherwise uninjured.”

The boy was treated at Royal Children’s Hospital for the injuries, while the grandmother was receiving treatment for shock.

A Rep for John Travolta and Kelly Preston Denies the Couple is Expecting Twins

Star magazine reported that Kelly Preston and John Travolta were expecting twins, but a rep for the couple set the record straight - there is only one baby.

An inside source claims that Kelly underwent fertility treatments and the couple ended up getting pregnant with twins. The insider even said, “They were ecstatic when they thought they were having just one baby. Now that there will be two, they can barely contain their happiness!”

But according to a rep for the couple, “they are not expecting twins.” The rep says that these claims are “totally false.”

John and Kelly announced the pregnancy earlier this month. The couple lost their son Jett last year after he suffered a seizure. They also have a 10 year old daughter named Ella.

         

Mariah Carey Once Again Sparks Pregnancy Rumors by Pulling Out of Latest Movie

Mariah Carey has been the subject of pregnancy rumors since she married her husband Nick Cannon two years ago and it seems once again the rumors have started.

Apparently Carey has abruptly pulled out a movie that she was supposed to be doing with Tyler Perry. It was set to start filming next month.

A rep for Carey told PEOPLE, “I’m not at liberty to discuss her personal life at this time.”

Carey and Cannon have made it well-known that they want to start a family. Cannon revealed that they had certain things that needed to focus on first and that they were going “to let nature take its course.”

Mariah and Nick just recently renewed their vows again on their second wedding anniversary.

Claudia Schiffer Reveals Daughter’s Name: Cosima

Model Claudia Schiffer has revealed the name of her daughter, who was born May 14.

Apparently Claudia wanted to keep the “C” pattern with her kids and named her newborn daughter Cosima. She and her husband Matthew Vaughn also have two other children, Caspar, 7, and Clementine, 5.

Cosima was born on May 14 in London and according to tradition Claudia announced her name a week after she was born.

         

Gwen Stefani’s Rep Shoots Down Pregnancy Rumors

Gwen Stefani has had the rumor mills circulating that she is expecting her third child, but according to a rep for the singer, Gwen is not pregnant.

Gwen has been seen wearing looser clothes, wearing sea band bracelets for motion sickness, and even seen holding her stomach in a picture, but according to her rep this doesn’t mean that she is pregnant.

Her rep told E! Online that the No Doubt singer is not expecting another child.

Gwen and her husband Gavin Rossdale are parents to Kingston, 4, and Zuma, 1.

Wayne Rooney Gets a New Tattoo in Honor of His Son Kai

Wayne Rooney revealed a new tattoo on his back that he dedicated to his 6 month old son Kai.

The new tattoo is on the middle of Wayne’s upper back and has two hands praying with angel wings. Kai’s name is printed under the hands.

The tattoo appears to be imaged after the famous art work The Praying Hands by Albrecht Durer.

It is speculated that Wayne got the tattoo now because he will be away from his son and wife Coleen Rooney in two weeks as he competes in the World Cup tournament in South Africa. Wayne told reporters that Coleen “will be staying home looking after the baby,” and will not be making the trip to the tournament.

A source close to Rooney says, “Wayne’s not looking forward to being apart from his family, but he has a job to do for his country.”

Kai is the first child for Wayne and Coleen.

         

Study: Canada’s teen pregnancy rates falling rapidly

A new study indicates that among countries like the US, England and Sweden, Canada has seen the most progress in lowering teenage pregnancy rates.

Canada has one of the biggest declines in teenage pregnancy rates around, according to a recently published study by the Sex Information and Education Council of Canada.

The SIECC looked at the number of live births and abortions in the United States, England, Sweden and Canada from 1996 to 2006. Researchers found that teen pregnancy rates fell steadily every year in Canada, from 44.2 per 1,000 women aged 15 to 19 in 1996 to 27.9 in 2006. The 36.9 percent decline represents the biggest decline among the countries studied, with a 25 percent decline in the U.S., a 4.75 percent decline in England and Wales, and 19.1 percent drop in Sweden.

“What’s striking is that the magnitude of decline appears to be more significant in Canada,” lead study author Alex McKay told The Vancouver Sun. “Declining teen pregnancy rates for the country in general are indicative of better sexual and reproductive health among young women,” he added.

The team also found a similar decline in abortion rates in Canada, noting a 35.7 percent drop in teen abortions in Canada. The U.S. saw a 28.6 percent drop in teen abortions while England and Sweden saw a rise, 9.1 and 30 percent respectively. The researchers also noted that the birthrate still dropped in England and Sweden.

Speaking on the drop in birthrate but increase in abortion rate in Sweden, McKay told The Vancouver Sun: “Swedish researchers seem to explain that by saying that for young women in Sweden, abortion is considered to be a viable — but at the same time undesirable — way of dealing with teen pregnancy.”

The SIECC also notes that in Canada at least, the rate that 16- and 17-year-old teens participate in sex has remained steady over the decade, sitting near 50 percent.

“By and large, the Canadian teenager today is not more or less likely to be sexually active than the Canadian teenager from a decade ago,” McKay said. “But what is different is that the sexually active teenager today is more likely to protect themselves against unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.”

A teen girl at Jarvis Collegiate in Toronto, interviewed by CBC News, seemed to agree, saying that girls are “smarter now, so they choose to use protection.”

“In my area, there’s a walk-in clinic. There’s people there to talk to if you have any questions about birth control and stuff like that,” another girl at the school said.

         

Baby P social workers suspended for misconduct

Two social workers closely associated with the Baby P case were suspended for misconduct but were allowed to remain on the social care register.

The General Social Care Council decided today that Baby P social workers Maria Ward and Gillie Christou would be suspended for misconduct, Ward receiving two months suspension and Christou four months.

“Ms. Ward and Ms. Christou did not comply appropriately with their duties, and had they done so the tragic death of Peter Connelly may have been avoided,” stated Marios Lambis, counsel for the GSCC, during the hearing.

Ward was assigned to be Baby P’s social worker from February 2007 until his death. Christou acted as Ward’s team manager during that time. Both admitted failings in their actions during the time Baby P was in the care of their agency, Haringey Social Services.

“Less than a decade after the damning public inquiry into the death of Victoria Climbie, who had been known to Haringey social services, it is clear that the incompetence and systemic failures in the department were continuing to put vulnerable children’s lives at risk,” said Lambis.

“The abuse of Peter Connelly was allowed to persist due to a failure of Haringey social services to learn from past mistakes,” added Lambis.

The GSCC ultimately allowed the pair, already suspended for 16 months during the investigation, to remain on the social care register, however.

Jonathan Roberts, the GSCC committee chairman, said that the act of removing them from the register would have been “disproportionate to the facts admitted at this hearing,” and that by doing so, the committee would have acted only “to satisfy a perceived public demand for blame and punishment for a registrant who does not present a continuing risk.”

“That would be wrong,” Roberts added. He cited the pair’s previously unblemished record, their early admittance of fault, excessive case loads and the skillful lying of Baby P’s mother, Tracey Connelly.

Nick Toms, who acted as counsel for Ward and Christou, said that the two women “deeply regret” their actions.
