Kelly Rutherford Shows Off Her Daughter and Talks About Being a Single Mom

Gossip Girlactress Kelly Rutherford shows off her daughter Helena Grace Rutherford Giersch and talks about her raising her children as a single mother in the new issue of Life and Style magazine.

According to Kelly Rutherford, the news that she was expecting a second child was bittersweet for her. She was overjoyed that she would be having another child but at the same time she was going through a horrible time in her marriage to Daniel Giersch. When she was 3 months pregnant with her daughter, she decided to finally end her marriage with Giersch and become a single mom to her daughter on the way and her 2-year-old son Hermes.

The actress says that it did not take her long to figure out that her and her husband were not the ideal couple. She says, “I met this person, I fell in love with him and I wished for the best. He was charming in the beginning.” But soon after the birth of their son in 2006, “it was pretty obvious we weren’t getting along.”

Rutherford says that she tried to make it work for the sake of their son and her daughter Helena was actually conceived when the couple was trying to make the relationship work. “I found out I was pregnant, and I thought, Oh, maybe things will be nice, maybe it will be calm,” Kelly recalls. “But it wasn’t. Things only got more intense.”

Kelly decided that she did not want Daniel in the room with her when she gave birth. “I didn’t want him in the room with me,” Kelly tells Life & Style. (Her doctor advised against it too.) “When you’re in labor, you don’t want the man you’re divorcing in there, especially someone who’s said cruel things about you. I was just trying to have a healthy baby through an enormous amount of stress.”

She added that despite what Daniel has said, she did not prevent him from seeing his daughter. She says, “She was born at 10 at night, and he saw her the next morning.”

Despite going through a rather intense divorce still, Kelly says that she is adjusting well to her new role as a single mother with two children. She believes that she doesn’t need any man to help her raise her children right now, as she says, “A lot of great men, presidents even, were raised [only] by their mothers under those conditions. The most important thing is that the children have love and stability in their lives, whether that comes from a mother or a father. [Alone], I can raise them to be much more peaceful.”

Her ex-husband seems to disagree with her and he has taken her to court to fight her bringing the kids to New York when she starts filming the third season of Gossip Girl. Kelly says that he is out of his mind, as she is not going anywhere without them.

The drama is still going on with her and her ex-husband, Kelly stays positive and remains focused on her two children.
