A 25-year-old woman has given birth in a pub car park after she went into labour on her way to the hospital.

Her partner stopped off to use the phone to call an ambulance at the Seven Stars pub in Brocton on Monday evening.

A midwife arrived at the pub and safely delivered the baby boy in the car park surrounded by a crowd of drinkers.

Sue Pearce, an Emergency Medical Technician told reporters: “It was a very quick delivery.

“When we arrived mum was wanting to push. With a crowd gathering we got mum and dad onto the ambulance for a bit of privacy.

“Almost immediately a healthy baby boy was born, just 20 minutes after the initial call.”

“This is only my second delivery but my crew mate, Paramedic Patrick Griffin, has delivered quite a few babies but it’s the first time either of us have delivered one in a pub car park.

“I am sure the locals will have been raising a glass in the young man’s honour.”

Mother and baby were later taken to Stafford Hospital in the West Midlands, where they are said to be doing well.
