Doctors Recommend More Sex For Men
Couples trying to conceive have been recommended to have sex every day. According to new research, daily sex improves the quality of men’s sperm.
Until recently, it was thought by many that men should refrain from intercourse for several days as it would increase the chances of conception.
The study was carried out in Australia by Dr David Greening, at an infertility and IVF treatment centre.
Greening studied 118 men who had higher than normal levels of DNA damaged sperm. When they were told to ejaculate every day for a week, the quality of their sperm was found to significantly increase.
Although having sex more frequently does decrease the volume of semen, for many of the men it was not a problem.
“It seems safe to conclude that couples with relatively normal semen parameters should have sex daily for up to a week before the ovulation date,” he told the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Amsterdam.
“In the context of assisted reproduction, this simple treatment may assist in improving sperm quality and ultimately achieving a pregnancy.”
One theory Greening put forth was that sperm had less time to be exposed to DNA damaging molecules in the testicular ducts.
