Actor Matt Damon attended the premiere of his History Channel documentary The People Speak this week and commented on how he wants to make sure that his two daughters become politically active and talks about play dates and Thanksgiving.

Although Matt’s daughters are still very young (Isabella, 3, and Gia, 1) he is already planning to get them involved in being politically active. He says, “The tagline is that ‘Democracy is not a spectator sport,’” Matt says. “That’s what I would want, more than anything, my kids to take away. This country is about participation, activism, understanding the history of the country, understanding your place in that history, being involved and being a productive part of the American experience.”

On the carpet for his new documentary Matt also mentioned to OK! that although he and Ben Affleck are best friends since childhood, his little girls and Ben’s (Violet,3, and Seraphina, 10 months) have not had any play dates together yet. “We’re on different coasts,” Matt says.

The Oscar winner talked about fatherhood and how he is constantly surprised. He says, “I never knew I could function this well with no sleep. That was a realization.”

When asked about his Thanksgiving plans, he replied, “We’re getting out of town for a few days, and going down to Florida.” Matt also commented that his favorite Thanksgiving tradition is “eating.” “Thanksgiving, yeah. It’s gotta be the eating,” he said.

Matt and his wife Luciana will be married for 4 years in December. Luciana has an 11-year-old daughter from a previous relationship as well.

The Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson, 28, who garnered praise for her breakout role in 2006’s Dreamgirls, will play the wife of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first black president, in the drama, ‘Winnie’. This, just three months after giving birth to son David.

Variety reports that the film will go into production May 30th in South Africa and Robben Island, (Seven kilometres off the coast of Cape Town) where anti-apartheid activist Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison. Hudson is also expected to sing the film’s theme song.

Hudson told Variety: “I was compelled and moved when I read the script,”

“Winnie Mandela is a complex and extraordinary woman and I’m honored to be the actress asked to portray her. This is a powerful part of history that should be told.”

Hudson says she’s seeing traits of a performer in her little boy;

“He seems like he’s very interested in music already,” Hudson told Usmagazine.com in September. “The other night he was having a fit and screaming and sometimes when I play music, he will just calm down. I was exactly the same way.”

Actress Halle Berry takes the hands on mothering approach as she teaches her 15-month old daughter Nahla how to swim in Miami.

The Oscar winning actress spent some quality time with her daughter Nahla while on holiday in Miami, FL. Nahla’s father and Halle’s partner, Gabriel Aubry was also on hand for the holiday with the family.

The family headed down to the pool as Nahla made her way around in the water in an inflatable ring. Halle then proceeded to give her daughter swimming lessons, letting her paddle around in the pool.

This was a rare appearance for Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry, as they are rarely photographed together out and about. The actress is not just in South Beach for pleasure though. She will be joining Beyonce, Demi Moore, Sinead O’Connor, Mary J Blige and women across America for its Girls Are Not for Sale campaign. The campaign promotes girls’ empowerment and provides tools to help fight against child trafficking and pimps.
