Taye Diggs Dishes on the Birth of His Son, Calling His Wife a “Warrior”

The actor Taye Diggs tells Ellen DeGeneres that his wife, Idina Menzel was a “warrior” during natural childbirth.

The Private Practice star retold the story of the birth of his son on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, saying that he did not freak out.

He says, “There was something going on that morning, so we knew this is going to be a special day. She said, ‘Go off to work, and if I need you, I will call you.’” He got that call later in the day

He continued, “In the movies and on TV, you always hear everyone’s rushing, but everyone is telling me when it actually happens, there is no need to rush. There is no need to speed. So on the way home, I was constantly telling myself, ‘Relax, relax, be cool.’”

When he got home to his wife, he took her to the hospital and that’s when “the labor really starts to kick in.”

He says that Idina opted for a completely natural childbirth with no drugs. Saying, “She is a warrior.”

She ended up being labor for about 7-8 hours and it was very emotional for both of them.

“I was holding her hands and cheering her on,” he says. “I said I would look two times. I would look when the baby was crowning, and I wanted to look right when [son] Walker came out. And then when he came out, all the sudden it was like my inner gangster came out. I was like, ‘Yeah baby, that’s what I’m talkin’ about, that’s my boy!’”

Their son was born on September 2nd. He is the first child for the couple.

Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel Welcome a Son

The couple welcomed a son named Walker Nathaniel on September 2.

A rep for the couple said, “Mother, father and son are all doing well.”

The couple announced that the pregnancy back in March and later revealed it was a boy who was due on September 6th.

The Private Practice star had said, “We have a couple [names] in the running, but part of us wants to see what he hits us with when we see him. We’ll see what he looks like.”

Taye and Idina first met back in 1996 on the Broadway production of Rent. They married in 2003. Walker is the first child for the couple.
