Babytalk Magazine Reveals Cover Contest Winner

Rowan Spracklen has been selected by “Good Morning America” viewers as the winner of Babytalk magazine’s 10th annual cover contest winner.
The 14-month old cutie from Erie, Pennsylvania, received 16,000 votes from GMA viewers. The contest had over 50,000 entries.
Ana Connery, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, revealed the winner and the November cover design live on GMA on October 12. Adorable Baby Rowan and his parents, Mia and Adrian Spracklen, were on the GMA set in Times Square when the announcement was made. Rowan also wins a $1,000 gift card from The Children’s Place.
The win holds special meaning for the family because November is National Adoption Month. The Spracklens adopted Rowan when he was only 6 months old after he was abandoned at a police station and sent to an orphanage in Ethopia. The orphanage tried to take care of him, but Rowan was suffering from malnutrition and sick when the Spracklens made Rowan part of their family.
The Spracklens call their son a miracle and a survivor, and they believe he has adjusted well to his new life. Rowan has three older sisters, Henley, 10, Teagan, 8 and Luca, 6.
Mia Spracklen decided to enter the baby contest because Rowan often received praise and comments from other people when in public.

Woman Charged For Alcohol Poisoning Her Baby
A woman has been charged for causing the death of her 6-month-old baby by alcohol poisoning.
Jessica Minor gave her son Mason alcohol in 2007 while living in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. It is believed that she gave her son alcohol in an attempt to stop him from crying.
The baby boy later died, and was found to have more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his blood for an adult driver.
Minor appeared in front of Wyoming County Court today, where she pleaded not guilty.
She was charged with involuntary manslaughter and later released on an unsecured bail of $25,000.
How To Predict How Popular Your Baby’s Name May Be In The Future
New research suggests that the quicker a baby name becomes more popular, the quicker they become out of date.
One example is the name Tricia, which was unheard of in the 1950s. It peaked in popularity during the 1970s, becoming the 144th top girl’s name. It then became unpopular just as rapidly, and is no longer in the top 1,000 girl’s names.
The results of the study carried out by Johah Berger from the University of Pennsylvania will be published on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
“These are shifts where a new taste develops and it gradually expands and expands and expands. Because it is a fashion it eventually falls away and gets replaced by something else,” said Harvard sociologist Stanley Lieberson.
Berger’s study found that baby names that increased in popularity more slowly through time remained popular for longer.
Names which become fashionable quickly may just be a fad “Things that catch on really quickly might end up less popular overall because they have a shorter life cycle,” Berger added.
Jordan Brown, 11 year old charged with shooting pregnant woman

11-year-old Jordan Brown covered a 20-bore shotgun with a blanket and shot Kenzie Houk, his father’s fiancee, in the head before dashing out of the family’s house to ride the school bus said prosecutors at a courtroom in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
A judge has ruled that Brown should not be tried as a minor. If convicted as an adult, he faces mandatory life in prison.
Kenzie Houk’s family claimed that he was jealous of her and her two young daughters. All cohabited in a farm house in Pennsylvania, until the fatal shooting last month.
The boy Miss Houk was carrying was almost full term and died of oxygen deprivation. Jordan Brown has been charged with murdering him also.
Police said they later discovered a shotgun in Brown’s bedroom which smelled as if it had been fired recently. Police also said that Jordan Brown’s clothing had gunshot residue on it.
The trial continues.
