The mother of six has vowed to raise her children with different views than she had when she was a child.
Angelina Jolie, who spoke at a ceremony honoring refugees at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C, says that she never realized just how lucky and privalaged she was when she was growing up, and she doesn’t want to her raise her children that way. Jolie, who has six children (Maddox, 7, Pax, 5, Zahara, 4, Shiloh, 3, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 11 months) with her partner Brad Pitt says that she is going to raise her children differently.
The actress told NBC’s Ann Curry that, “I hope if I raise them with a more accurate view of the world than I was raised with, then they will naturally be better people. ” She added, “And I’m sure my children will be visiting and learning from refugees in the future.”
Jolie also had this to say in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper,
“Some of my kids are from countries that have seen conflict. I usually just explain to them that there are other families in the world that aren’t as fortunate as ours and other kids. And so I tell them that it’s important for all of us to do what we can and then go to these places and understand what’s happening. So I think they’re just being raised that this is the normal thing to do…. Hopefully I’ll take them to as many countries as I can and raise them with an education of the world.”
