Beauty Salon Baby Boom

One of Chicago’s beauty salons is experiencing a baby boom, and customers say “M Salon” might should stand for “Maternity Salon”.

Is this salon trying to raise its own customer base by birthing the customers themselves?  There’s no doubt about it, M Salon’s employees just keep on getting pregnant.

The owners of the salon have counted 20 pregnancies, with 18 babies born since 2005.  Two more babies are on their way now — at least, that is the count as far as they know!  The race between the sexes is tied with 9 girls and 9 boys.

The last two babies born into the salon family were both born on October 23, at neighboring rooms at Lake Forest Hospital. Michelle Biba gave birth to Brooke, and Danielle Frutiger gave birth to Cole.  Their due dates were a month apart.

“It’s always a joke about who’s next and ‘Don’t drink the water,’” said co-owner Michelle Youngren Rudolph.

One customer noted that she was eye level with bulging bellies as she sat for a new hairstyle.  The 15 new moms make up more than half of the salon’s 27 employees.

Co-owner Marina Levin elected for a new Maltese instead of a baby.  “Everyone was having babies, and I wanted one, too, so I got a puppy.”
