My Supermodel Baby on BBC1 aired to audiences worldwide and via the iPlayer. The show delivered on reality and if nothing could or should be drawn from the viewing experience, baby modelling is for fun, not profit.
All mums and dads think their babies are beautiful, (All babies are beautiful) however gracing the cover of Mother and Baby Magazine or starring in a TV campaign isn’t open to all and professional judgement is clearly best left to the professionals.
A multi-million pound industry appears to cascade little to the babies trust funds. However agencies willing to take, “administration fees” are a plenty and those that actually enable bookings are rare. One of the more sophisticated methods of leveraging large amounts of money from overly excited new parents was mentioned, the £25 photoshoot that turns into thousands of pounds via the Venture franchise.
My Supermodel Baby followed three parents who thought their babies had what it took to become baby supermodels, humble though they appeared.
Eight-month-old Frankie was the apple in his mothers eyes, Jamie and Kelly. He manages to attract the attention of Mother and Baby Magazine editor Miranda Levy and gets a front page shoot.
In Huddersfield, unemployed dad Matt was, “Happy” to see his nine-month-old triplets featured in a Littlewoods catalogue.
Over in London, adorable Esther believes her baby Hadley could easiliy be on the front of a magazine. In fact, it’s her dream, (And it came true).
Gushy parents, cute babies, and the harsh reality of the modelling work equals great TV. Dissapointing was that Photoshop apparently needs to iron out the wrinkles of even a six-month-old baby, so heaven help the rest of us.
