Race Car Driver Alex Lloyd Hopes Daughter Waits Till After Indy 500 To Come Into The World

Alex Lloyd’s wife is due to give birth to the couple’s second child on May 24, which just happens to be same day he will compete in the Indianapolis 500.

Apparently Alex Lloyd does not have the best timing for things. His wife is currently pregnant with their second child, a girl, and her due date is on the same day as the Indy 500. The Indy 500 is one of the biggest events in race car driving.

As Alex is competing in the race, he is hoping that his wife, Samantha, will still be waiting patiently along pit road when he finishes, instead of going into labor while he is racing.

Samantha Lloyd said, “When they told us, I thought, it’s just typical. We already have a name picked out, Bethany. But if she arrives on race day, we’ll probably have to switch and go with something with a little more racing flavor.”

Lloyd has not made any plans of setting up a relief driver for the race. He also has told his crew that he doesn’t want to know if his wife goes into labor while he is driving, as he just wants to focus on the race.

He said, “I’m just going to drive faster and when I get the checkered flag, then they can tell me if something has happened. If they tell me, I’m just going to tell them to open the gates and let me go because I can get there in this car a lot faster than I can in another car.”

Alex figures that he has plenty of time to witness the birth as Samantha was in labor for 28 hours with their first daughter, Ava, who was born in October 2007.

Samantha and Alex are both hoping that the baby waits until next week to come. The day after the race would be fine for them.
