Padma Lakshmi Dishes on Her Pregnancy So Far

The Top Chef host isn’t afraid to discuss how pregnancy has affected her life, but she is still keeping quiet about who the daddy is.

At a brunch in New York City for breast cancer awareness, Padma said had quite a bit to say about her belly and her pregnancy. “One thing that happens when you’re pregnant is that as your stomach starts to stretch [and] it itches! So I have to keep my belly really lubricated,” she said.

She went on to add, “Every morning, there’s a buttering ceremony after I get out of the shower. It’s really like basting a turkey with body butter. Before, my housekeeper was helping me because I can’t bend over to do my feet. Now my mom’s here and she’s been buttering up my tummy.”

The model turned cookbook author is due with her first child in late March/early April. When she was asked if she was going to find out the baby’s sex all she said was “no comment.”

She is also not revealing who the father of the baby is as she has been divorced since 2007 and has not publicly dated anyone since. She does plan to raise the baby in New York.

Padma did reveal that she doesn’t plan to restrict her diet at all and will continue to eat her way through another season of Top Chef.

I am as omnivorous as it’s possible to be. I always say there’s nothing I won’t eat and nothing I won’t wear,” said the star. “Am I gonna be having a scotch on the rocks? No. But I never did that anyway.”

She also revealed that she is used to the public scrutiny on her body and weight. “During the course of filming Top Chef, I gain 15 lbs., so I’m used to needing two dress sizes,” she said. “Now I’ll just need three: my fat size, my skinny size and my super size.”

Padma plans on using her pregnancy to raise awareness for endometriosis, which is a condition that Padma has gone through herself. She has had operations in the past and truly thought she would never be able to get pregnant. Her and her doctors consider her pregnancy a “medical miracle” as many women who suffer from this condition can’t get pregnant or carry a baby successfully.
