Woman With Terminal Cancer Gives Birth To Healthy Boy
A woman in Boston has given birth to a healthy baby boy despite having terminal cancer.
The mother, known only as Trinidad, said “For me, giving birth to this baby means a lot because despite struggling with death I am giving him life,”
Doctors strongly advised Trinidad to terminate the pregnancy when they found that cancer had spread throughout her body and she would only have a few months to live.
Trinidad found out about the cancer after she told doctors that she thought she had asthma.
At her request, the doctors used lower than normal doses of chemotherapy, so that she could keep the cancer under control under the baby was safely born.
“I am absolutely convinced that she wouldn’t be alive right now if she hadn’t have the strength of will because she wants to deliver this healthy baby.” said Dr. Jodi Abbott from Boston Medical Center.
The baby boy was delivered by Caesarean section after Trinidad had been in hospital for five months.
“Both of us survived a lot of risk and that is very meaningful to me,” the proud mother said.
Trinidad has been recording an audio diary during her time at the hospital, and hopes that her son will get to know about her hopes and dreams: “I want my baby to know that I love him more than my own life and that’s the reason why I have decided for him to be born.”
