Paula Oliveira invents attack, lies about twins

According to prosecutors Paula Oliveira, 26, has weaved a web of deceit. Paula claimed she was attacked by three skinheads with knives near Zurich, causing a miscarriage.

While interrogated last week, prosecutors claimed that she lied, she in turn acknowledged the lie. Police had already inferred she was not pregnant, despite her claims.

Reports of the attack had caused shock in Brazil, where it was reported along with graphic images of the wounds inflicted on Ms Oliveira, wounds that appear to now be self-inflicted.

Photos showed her stomach and legs with hundreds of cuts from a knife, and the initials of the right-wing Swiss People’s Party (SVP).

The Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim had said the assault was, “shocking” and “grave”.

Doubts began to surface around the claim when Zurich University forensic medicine chief Walter Baer said: “Any experienced forensic doctor would not hesitate to assume that this was a case of self-infliction.”

Having been confronted with this evidence, Paula Oliveira admitted that no attack had taken place and she had cut her own skin. Further, that she was not pregnant.

Prosecutors are now investigating Paula Oliveira on suspicion of misleading police and blocked her passport to keep her from leaving the country.
