Dangerous dummies recalled

Fourteen dangerous dummies have been recalled by the government of Australia’s New South Wales due to being a choking hazard to babies.

A recent safety compliance campaign across discount stores in New South Wales has identified fourteen dummies that pose a serious hazard to babies.

The government has issued a recall on the dummies and has urged people that have bought them to return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. More than 3000 of them have been sold since 2004.

Fair Trading Minister Virginia Judge said that all of the recalled dummies failed safety tests and could pose a choking hazard or block air supply.

“Nine safety shields were not the required size to stop the dummies from lodging in a baby’s throat,” said Judge. “Two dummies had (too) small ventilation holes that may block the airways of a young child and eight dummies did not have secure teats or rings, posing another serious choking hazard.”

“The dummies were manufactured overseas and sold in a variety of discount stores across the country.”
