Baby treated like rubbish: Recycling centre uncovers a body

Police are now searching for the mother of a baby boy after his body was discovered wrapped in a black trash bag at a waste recycling plant.

A worker at the plant discovered the body whilst checking for glass at the Greenstar Recycling Plant in Mill Lane, Addlethorpe, Lincolnshire, UK. The baby was no more than two or three days old.

Lincolnshire police released a statement saying: “A search is now on to trace the mother of the baby, who police believe could be very poorly and in desperate need of medical attention.”

Detective Stuart Gibson told the Telegraph: “At this stage we are investigating the death of a baby who was probably no more than two or three days old,”

Gibson indicated the boy’s mother likely gave birth without any medical help.

“I think it’s fair to say from the post-mortem that the birth was a traumatic birth and also that there was no professional presence when the baby was delivered,” he told the newspaper. “It’s perfectly possible that this woman or girl has given birth without anybody being there or with anybody who knew what they were doing.”

Gibson said officials found the baby’s umbilical cord in the bag with his body.

The bag the baby was discovered in also contained what appeared to be the mother’s clothing, including her pants and a pair of knickers. They were soaked with blood and the baby’s body was left in plastic packaging that once held rolls of toilet paper.

“The most important thing for me is for the mum to come forward. There’s no question that she will be distressed and in need of urgent medical attention and this is a direct appeal for her to contact us so we can hopefully get to the bottom of what has happened,”

Officials believe the woman did not have a botched abortion but that the baby was born and died.

A post-mortem examination of the baby has not yet been completed.
