Ricki Lake Describes How Having Children Has Healed Her Wounds
Ricki Lake has told People magazine in an interview how giving birth to her children helped her to heal the wounds of being sexually abused as a young child.
The actress and talk show host was abused from around the age of six or seven years-old. She later battled with an ongoing weight problem, and at one point weighed 270 pounds.
She believes that childbirth helped her to deal with her pain and release the pain she had carried around for many years.
In her newly released book, Your Best Birth, she said “I was able to look at my body and see what it was able to do and embrace it,”
“[I was able to] sort of let go of all the body image issues.”
Lake, 40, has two children, 12 year-old Milo and 7 year-old Owen. She currently lives a healty lifestyle and now maintains her weight at 140 pounds.
“I eat everything I want to eat” Ricki said. “I just don’t eat all of it.”
