Tana Ramsay, who is the wife of Gordon Ramsey and mother of 4 kids, received the Tesco Magazine Celebrity Mum of the Year Award at a ceremony in London this weekend.
Tana describes herself as a traditional mother who is constantly learning new lessons in parenting. Tana has written three best-selling cookbooks and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity says that parenthood is still a “learning curve” and a “journey.”
She also says that one needs, “patience of a saint. You talk to them and listen to them. As they get older that’s the thing I’m learning all the time is just listening. Some problems you might not think are a big deal are massive for them.”
Tana also says “as they get older it’s more important for them to spend more time with Gordon, more time with me, and with us together.” Currently Tana and Gordon’s children are 11 years old (Megan), 10 years old (twins Jack and Holly), and 8 years old (Matilda).
Ramsey says that it was her mum that has set the example for how she raises her children. “I follow my mum’s lead in how she was as a mum,” she noted. “Computers and telephones make it quite hard being a parent. Where do you draw the line? You don’t want them to stick out and be a different child to their friends but you want to be traditional, you want to see them do research in the library and go to a phone box to call you but that’s not real any more.”
Tana’s husband Gordon, who is most known for being a foul-mouthed chef on his show Hell’s Kitchen, is apparently quite different at home and it’s actually Tana who is the “control freak.” Gordon revealed that Tana weighs him once a week to ensure that he is not gaining too much weight. Apparently she wants to make sure he is alive for the kids and her and says that too many chefs are known for being overweight. Gordon and Tana have been married for 14 years.
Other celebrity mums who were up for the award included, Natasha Kaplinsky, Linda Lusardi, Patsy Palmer, Jo Joyner, Jessie Wallace and Lucy Benjamin.
The overall mum of the year award was given to Jane Gates from Binfield in Berkshire. Gates set up a foundation after her 9 year old son Sebastian died from a rare form of kidney cancer back in 2003. It is called Sebastian Action’s Trust and she has already raised over £1.2 million for the charity. Jane revealed, “It was Sebastian’s last wish to raise the money to build the holiday home. He had already established the charity and 12 days before he died he launched a campaign to raise the money to build this unique holiday facility for sick children.”

Dr. Walter “Curley”‘ Watson was honored yesterday at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, as he celebrated his 100th birthday. Some people call the obstetrician and gynecologist “Dr. Watson,” and some people call him “Papa Doc.” Most people, however, call him the oldest practicing physician in the United States.
“Papa Doc” Walter Watson has delivered 18,000 babies in his lifelong medical career. Many of those bearing the label “Watson Baby” were on hand to help University Hospital celebrate the nation’s oldest practicing physician on this special day.
“Watson Baby” Tom McAfee was at University Hospital to help the good doctor celebrate his birthday, but McAfee had other business to attend to as well. His own daughter was being born that day, and you guessed it — little Audrey Marie McAfee is a “Watson Baby,” too! Baby Audrey was delivered at University Hospital’s Women’s Center, conveniently named after Dr. Watson. She became an instant celebrity as she was named after Dr. Watson’s wife.
The special babies born to this elite club on Dr. Watson’s 100th birthday were rewarded with balloons and a baby onesie bearing their trademark, “Watson Baby.”
According to Healthgrade, Dr. Watson received his M.D. 67 years ago. He has practiced at University Hospital since 1947. Dr. Watson was unable to find a job right out of college, and he settled for work on a farm in Edgefield where he worked for seven years. He plowed from sunup to sundown in his bare feet, saving his shoes for Sunday School. He finally had enough money to enroll in medical school at Medical School of Georgia in 1939. He did his residency at University Hospital in 1947 and never left.
It is reported that Dr. Watson still sees 5 patients a day and is currently accepting new patients, but generally no longer delivers babies.
Happy birthday, “Papa Doc!” You are an inspiration to us all!

Mother forced to get off bus for breastfeeding

A mother from Bristol, England was forced off of a bus, accused of being ‘indecent’ for breastfeeding her baby daughter.
Amy Wooten of Bristol, England was taking the 54 First Bristol bus home on Tuesday when her six-week-old baby daughter, Emily, became fussy. Reluctantly, Wooten decided to breast feed Emily on the busy bus.
This prompted a complaint from a passenger, and the driver asked Wooten to discontinue breastfeeding. When Wooten, 25, refused to stop, the driver kicked her off the bus despite rainy weather. She was forced to take a taxi the rest of the way home.
”I felt completely and utterly humiliated, because it was a packed bus — if I hadn’t fed her, Emily would have screamed and we would probably have had more complaints from people on the bus,” she told the Telegraph.
”I was showing a tiny bit of breast, but is it any different to showing your arm or your foot? I have really struggled breastfeeding Emily and had so many problems but was determined to do the right thing for her. It just makes you really reluctant to feed in public.”
The action came despite a national campaign that aims to encourage mothers to breastfeed. According to Nicki Symes of NHS Bristol, nearly 200 businesses in Bristol have adopted the policy, posting signs welcoming women who breastfeed. Bristol was also one of the first cities in the country to complete the first stage of UNICEF’s Baby Friendly initiative.
Bus operator First Bristol has since made an apology to Wooten, sending her flowers and gift vouchers. Karen Baxter, a spokesperson for the bus company, said the incident was unfortunate and staff would be given guidance to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
”We deeply regret the incident which was caused by one individual driver’s actions, and we have already expressed our sincere apologies to Ms. Wooten for the distress caused as a result of it,” Baxter told the Telegraph.
”We have launched an investigation into exactly what happened. As a company, we fully support a woman’s right to breastfeed in public and understand that when traveling with a small child it may be necessary to do this on the bus. We have already taken steps to ensure that this message is communicated to all of our staff.”
Harriet Harman, Minister for Women and Equality, commented on the situation saying: ‘I’m glad the bus company has apologised. This discrimination against breastfeeding mothers will be unlawful under the new Equality Bill currently going through parliament.”
The U.K.’s Equity Bill was first introduced to the House of Commons on April 24, 2009, and if passed, will provide numerous changes to help promote equality in the country.
Acupuncture May Help Depression During Pregnancy
February 25, 2010 by Cathy Ribble

Results of a new study from Stanford University suggest that women experiencing depression during pregnancy may find some relief with acupuncture.
Acupuncture originates from China where it has been practiced for thousands of years. An acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of very thin needles through the patient’s skin at specific points on the body. Needles are inserted to various depths. According to traditional Chinese medical theory, acupuncture points are located on meridians through which gi vital energy runs. Acupuncture remains controversial among Western medical doctors and scientists.
The Stanford study covered 150 women who were 12 to 30 weeks pregnant and experiencing major depression. 52 women were randomly assigned to undergo acupuncture treatment specifically developed for depression symptoms. 49 women were assigned to regular acupuncture, and 49 were assigned to Swedish massage. The women in the acupuncture group received 12 sessions of 25 minutes each without knowing which type of acupuncture treatment they received.
Eight weeks later nearly 66% of the women in the acupuncture-for-depression group reported at least a 50% reduction in their symptoms. Less then half of the women treated with massage or regular acupuncture reported similar results.
The study is drawing attention because depression symptoms are typically higher during the third trimester of pregnancy. Despite the normal increase in depression during that last phase of pregnancy, the women receiving acupuncture specifically designed to relieve depressive symptoms found relief from their symptoms.
To read more about acupuncture and massage for depression in pregnancy, see Depression During Pregnancy at the Stanford School of Medicine web site for Psychiatry and Behavorial Sciences.
Depression symptoms are a serious matter, and they should not be ignored. For further discussion of depression symptoms, see Depression Information on Healthline and talk with your doctor.

The reality star is trying to follow in her sister’s footsteps as she tries to conceive a baby with her husband Lamar Odom.
Khloe Kardashian may have revealed a bit too much about her personal life when she said that she stopped taking her birth control bills so that she can conceive a baby with her husband Lamar Odom.
Khloe and Lamar married last September after only dating for a little over a month. The couple have said several times that they wanted to have children as soon as possible. Lamar already has two children from a previous relationship.
Although the couple would love kids, Khloe says they are not in a hurry. She said, “But we’ve not stopped ourselves from having kids, either. We’re just being a healthy married young couple… I’m not sitting here staring at an ovulation calendar. I’m not saying to Lamar: ‘Okay, it’s time, let’s go!’ Yes, I’m not on the pill, but people stir my words around. Let’s just say sometimes I talk too much.”
Khloe’s sister Kourtney recently gave birth to a son in December. Her birth was shown on the last episode of the family’s reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
