Denise Van Outen Expecting a Girl
The TV presenter announced that her and her husband Lee Mead are expecting a baby girl and talks about her pregnancy so far.
According to Denise Van Outen finding out the sex of the baby made her pregnancy seem so much more real. Denise told Hello! magazine, “‘I feel really content. I think finding that out (the sex) has been the most euphoric, emotional part of the pregnancy, because it made it feel real. We didn’t have a preference, we just want the baby to be healthy.”
She added, “But it means that we’re getting excited about the things that we’re going to do, like, ‘Oh, I’ll be able to take her out and buy her a fairy costume!’”
Although the couple has already decided on a “quite traditional” name for their daughter they are not revealing it until she is born this spring.
Denise and Lee met in 2007 when Lee was a contestant on Any Dream Will Do and Denise was a judge. She said that she knew right from the start that he “had all the qualities that would make a good father.” She says, “‘I think he’ll be a bit of a softie with her, as that’s often the way with girls and their dads. My main thing is I want her to have a really good education. I feel really strongly that it’s the most valuable thing in life.”
“I feel so lucky to have a husband like him because he’s really understanding and patient,” Denise adds, “He surprises me with little things. He’s very romantic, like he came home and said, ‘I’ve booked you a pregnancy massage.’ And he has had to put up with me getting into bed every night completely covered in stretch mark creams and oils because I’m paranoid about getting stretch marks. I go to bed like a greasy chip every night.”
Van Outen says that she is enjoying her pregnancy so far and is still staying active. “Since finding out I’ve tried to keep myself quite active,’ she reveals. ”I still meet up with my personal trainer, Nicki Waterman. Before the climb I did lots of running, now we go for nice walks on Hampstead Heath.”
When it comes to her changinf body she says, “It’s like looking at somebody else’s body. I kind of like the changes, but it’s weird. In this industry, you’re really conscious of how you look anyway and you spend so long trying to have a nice body and caring about your appearance, but suddenly everything goes out of the window and Mother Nature says, Right, this is how it’s going to be.”
She adds, “You have to accept it and go with it. It’s the one time you can enjoy putting on weight. But I’m not going to rush (getting the weight off after the birth). I’ll do it in good time with the advice of Nicki, and I know that I’ll do it safely.”
Denise says that she won’t be taking a year off after the baby is born. She says, “I won’t be taking a year off. That’s too much pressure on Lee to be the one who’s always out, and it’ll mean he’ll miss out as a parent. We’ll just have to find a balance. He may go back in the West End soon, which will be good. I’m very lucky that I’m in a profession where I can tailor things to suit me. Other women I know, like Myleene Klass and Tess Daly, have made it work. I’ve got two TV things lined up for the end of the year but at the moment I don’t really know what I’ll be doing. It’s not confirmed whether I’ll be doing the BBC’s search for a Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. We’ll have to wait and see.”
This will be the first child for Denise and Lee.
