The Toys R Us, “2009 Holiday Hot Toy List” reports there’s a new craze for this Christmas in the form of a toy hamster, Tickle Me Elmo, also makes this years list, so he’ll be tickled still.

Zhu Zhu Pets are already one of the most sought-after gifts of the season.

Toys R Us spokesman Bob Friedland said: “These are definitely a hot item,”

Demand is pushing the going rate up to three times that amount on e-commerce sites like EBay and Amazon.

However, PayPal and eBay are predicting the season’s top items to be Twilight Barbie dolls, Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition Premium Bundle and the “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” DVD.

According to the National Retail Federation, retailers have cut back on inventory in anticipation of lower demand this year, so there’s unlikely to be any spectacular last-minute deals.

Tracy Mullin the organization’s president said: “Once the most popular items are gone, retailers won’t have anywhere to get them, so if there was ever a holiday season to buy early, this is it,”

Jim Silver of Timetoplaymag.com said:”Stores just under-ordered across the board,” he predicts shortages of the top 100 toys by early December.

The Zhu Zhu Pets hamster, an interactive mechanical rodent by Cepia Inc. sells for $9.99 it’s being compared to the, “Furby” craze a decade ago and already almost impossible to nab.
