Quality of Sperm linked to electromagnetic exposure
A new study exposed male volunteers to electromagnetic fields, high doses of which are produced by all electrically charged objects, including clock radios, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, stereos and microwaves. Irons are terrible polluters.
The findings of the research suggest high electromagnetic exposure could double the risk for men of having poor-quality sperm.
The Daily Mail has applauded the study as the housework get-out clause for men.
Dr De-Kun Li, a Fertility expert from Stanford University said his work provides the first evidence of a link between a decline in male fertility and electrical goods.
He said: “I would advise men and couples trying for a baby to reduce their exposure to electromagnetic fields”
Participants in the study were asked to wear magnetic field meters. Half of the group who had peak readings which were measured every four seconds for 24 hours were twice as likely to have low sperm quality.
Dr De-Kun Li said: “This is the first study to show a link between measured electromagnetic fields and poor semen quality in humans, which may provide a logical explanation for why we have seen reductions in sperm quality in men over the past century.”
Other factors shown to reduce sperm quality in previous studies include excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet, smoking, drug use and obesity.
