Peoples sexiest man alive for 2009 is named

Johnny Depp has been named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive”. He’s held the accolade once before in 2003.

Depp inherits the title from Hugh Jackman. Other stars who have won twice include George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Isla Fisher, the actress said: “Johnny Depp has magical powers. He’s funny, generous and clever. It’s just a shame he’s so hard on the eyes.”

The 46-year-old, (born June 9, 1963) father of two has survived 25 years of show biz. When not starring as Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates” franchise, he spends time with his family in France or on their private Bahamian island.

Some of the other awards that Depp has won include honors from the London Film Critics Circle (1996), Russian Guild of Film Critics (1998), Screen Actors Guild Awards (2004) and a Golden Globe for Best Actor.

At the 2008 MTV Movie Awards, he won the award for “Best Villain” for his portrayal of Sweeney Todd and “Best Comedic Performance” for Jack Sparrow.

Depp has been nominated for three Academy Awards, in 2004 for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, in 2005 for Finding Neverland, and in 2008 for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Depp won his first Golden Globe for his portrayal of Sweeney Todd in 2008.

Rumors were abound on Tuesday that Robert Pattinson would be named the “Sexiest Man Alive.”
