New Baby Elephant, (Calf), “Luk Chai” is having a ball! Cute Alert!
Luk Chai (pronounced “Look Chai”) the baby elephant was a cause for celebration at Australia’s Taronga Zoo this summer. The baby, (calf), a male, was the first to be born in an Australian zoo.
After a contest to name the calf, the zoo received about 30,000 entries. In the end, the name was selected for him, “Luk Chai” was chosen as it represents his Thai heritage and means, “My Son”.
Zoo staff report that he loves swimming with his mother and aunts, wallowing in the mud and…soccer with his jumbo sized ball.
Luk Chai is four months old now and is proof positive of the zoo’s breeding program. Luk is gaining about a kilo in weight daily and is now about 240kg.
