Kym Marsh Opens Up About Son’s Death in Born Too Soon
Coronation Street star Kym Marsh decided to open up about her son’s tragic death and learn more about premature birth, which is how the programme Born Too Soon came about.
In February 2009, Kym Marsh gave birth to her son Archie at only 21 weeks. Archie sadly passed away after only a few minutes of life.
The UK has one of the highest premature birth rates in Europe with 50,000 babies born premature every year.
Kym wanted to learn more about premature birth and so she filmed the Born Too Soon for the Tonight programme which will air Monday 9th November at 8pm. Kym says, “I hoped that doing this programme would go someway to finding some kind of answer as to why these things might go wrong with pregnancies.”
Kym admits that the decision to film the programme was not a very easy one on her, but she wanted to turn her thoughts from negative to positive.
The actress was just recently named Celebrity Mum of the Year. She has a 14-year-old son named David and an 11-year-old daughter Emily.

In 2005 I became pregant with Twins, a boy and a girl 22 weeks in to the pregancy I went into labour. Peter held on for half an hour but Helen passed away after only 2 and a half mins. It’s the most unexplainable feeling you have so much love and joy but filled with grief. When I walked out of the hospital empty handed I collapsed to the floor. It took quite a while stop feeling I had forgotten something every time I left the house. Joy was too far away, as 3 months later I became pregant again and once again it was twins. I tried to thing positive but all time I had a bad feeling. 27 weeks and 6 days I went into labour all I could think was I can’t lose another child. We had 3 months of neo-natal and they came home just before their due date. I wish I could say it was smooth sailing but it was 3 months of ups and downs, more downs than ups. If your lucky you get to go home with a perfectly healthly child but where as one of my boys was fine my other son was very poorly. He had an extremely low platelet count which later turned to Aplastic anemia. His treatment was transfered to Birmingham childrens hospital where I was told he might not see his 2nd birthday. He was moved to the top of the bone marrow transplant list. His immune system started to deteriorate so I dedicated my life to keep him well and strong. In September 2007 he had his transplant and know he his doing great he is just like a normal child thanks to the team at Birmingham children Hospital.
