Incubator Baby injured in fatal crash between ambulance and car
A baby, already seriously-ill was hurt when the incubator carrying it’s fagile body was shattered after the impact of a crash involving an ambulance and a car yesterday.
One fatality, the car driver, has been reported, pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man was removed from the car’s wreckage by firefighters and airlifted to hospital. A 6-year-old boy on the back seat was injured, though not seriously hurt, despite the impact flipping the car on to its roof.
The ambulance was transferring the baby from a hospital on the Isle of Wight to a specialist care unit on the mainland.
An injured nurse and the baby were taken to hospital in another ambulance.
Sources said that the driver of the ambulance which crashed suffered shock and minor injuries. None of the names of injured or dead victims involved in the crash are being identified until the families have been informed.
South Central Ambulance Service said it was ‘fully co-operating’ with the Hampshire police inquiry and also intended to carry out its own investigation.
