Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen have released their new book called “YOU: Having a Baby: The Owner’s Manual to a Happy Healthy Pregnancy.”
Dr. Oz appears on Oprah regularly and recently began hosting his own new television show, The Dr. Oz Show.
Dr. Michael Roizen is the Chief Wellness Officer of the Wellness Institute of Cleveland Clinic and is also a featured medical expert on numerous television shows and in numerous magazines. His first general audience book, “Real Age: Are You As Young as You Can Be?” became a #1 New York Times bestseller.
Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen cover some basic genetics you might have had in tenth-grade biology class, but take things a step further by educating readers about a cutting-edge field known as epigenetics. “While you can’t control which genes you pass on to your child, you do have some influence over which genes are expressed, affecting what features are seen in your baby (his phenotype).”
The new subject of “YOU-ology” is introduced — the discussion of how what you eat, breathe, and even feel can affect the long-term health of your baby. These experts take things beyond what happens when the sperm meets the egg between the satin sheets.
“50% of women who are pregnant don’t realize it,” says Dr. Oz during the authors’ recent GMA interview with Diane Sawyer. Dr. Oz said it may be weeks or even months before women know. The doctors hope to empower women with knowledge.
According to Dr. Oz, the carbonless cash register receipts handled everyday contain dangerous BPA chemicals, wash your hands. They have lots to say about caffeine, vitamins, plastics and microwaves.
“Stress is the real reason we wrote the book.” Stress has long been known to be the culprit of many medical conditions, but this book takes a fresh look at how stress, caffeine, and chemicals produced in the body in response to stress affect a child’s development.
