Did H1N1 put a damper on your Halloween?
As H1N1 and seasonal flu headline almost every newscast these days, the flu bugs just may have put a damper on your Halloween celebration one way or another.
If your family was already sick with the bugs, many parents found alternative ways to celebrate by dressing up in costumes, taking the annual pics for the family scrapbook, but then eating candy purchased by mom and dad. I wonder how many of this year’s family pics will record forever the evidence of a yucky dripping nose.
So maybe your family did not already have the flu bug. As you hit the trick-or-treat trail at dusk with friends, you hear the dreaded congested cough and sneezes. At least one supervising mom says prayers of thanksgiving that the group is outdoors at least.
Perhaps you were in the group in which a doting mom walked behind her child with the travel size Purrell sanitizing liquid and cleaned hands after every house visited.
For some, the night ended with dumping all the candy into the largest bowl in the house for the family to share. But this year, that traditional candy inspection before eating included mom wiping down every single candy wrapper or package with a Clorox wet wipe!
Hang in there, parents and kids alike! We will survive for another less complicated Halloween in years to come!
