Big Bird’s Birthday as Sesame Street Celebrates 40 years in Google’s Doodle
Google decided to, “Doodle” America’s beloved children’s show Sesame Street which is also televised in more than 120 countries.
It’s Sesame Street’s 40th Birthday on November 10th, originally premiering on PBS in 1969.
The search engine giants homepage features the 10-foot-tall, Big Bird. Just one of the iconic characters to come out of the show during it’s long history.
Produced by the Children’s Television Workshop, Sesame Street was ahead of its time in promoting values that are now taken for granted in many places, a pioneer of the contemporary educational television standard.
It was also innovative in incorporating adult jokes and references, including pop music. A toddler won’t realize that a song about the “Letter B” is a spoof of The Beatles. But parents did, and it kept them, and their kids glued to the show.
But part of “Sesame Street’s” message is that celebrity or not, we’re all equal and deserving of respect, and that’s how we should treat each other, too.
On November 10, Sesame Street will celebrate its 40th anniversary and will include a segment with First Lady Michelle Obama interacting with the Muppets.
In the UK version of Google, the Doodle celebrates Wallace and Gromit’s 20th birthday.
