Baby Alexander Sutherland: Mother charged with neglect and manslaughter
Tracey Sutherland, 39, has been charged with manslaughter and neglect of her 13-month-old son, who was found dead at a house in Porlock Road, Baguley, Greater Manchester at the beginning of this week.
Officers found baby Alexander Sutherland when they responded to a call at the address. Reportedly the call was made by Ms Sutherland, who informed them her son had been dead in the house for two days but she could not bear to be parted from him.
The mother is due to appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court charged with child neglect.
Police said a post-mortem examination had not established how the boy died.
Baby Alexander Sutherland was known to social workers in Manchester but was not believed to be on the ‘at risk’ register.
Manchester City Council’s Director of children’s services, Pauline Newman said: “This is a terrible tragedy and we offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of this little boy.
“We are examining closely the involvement we’ve had with the family and are liaising with the police as they investigate his tragic death.
“We have also informed the independent chair of Manchester Safeguarding Children’s Board, who will decide if an independently authored multi-agency serious case review should be held.”
A neighbour of Tracey Sutherland, Neil Hallam said: “They seemed like a nice family when I’ve seen them out and about.
“I often saw Tracey with the little boy so it was a huge shock when I heard he had died.
“Everyone was distraught when they heard of his death. He was only a baby so it’s horrible and such a tragedy.”

I have known Tracy on and off for a number of years - as she worked as a Check-out assistant in my local Tesco.
When I last spoke to Tracy, she was ‘over the moon’ telling me about her baby - I was really shocked to hear what had happened. Very hard to digest that she has been accused of the manslaughter of her child.
From past experiences, i.e., Sally - the Solicitor, who was wrongly accused, who later committed suicide - and a lady called Angela - who was also wrongly accused., it makes one think whether they have got it right this time with Tracy.
I hope that maybe it could be the same for Tracy - to loose a baby that you truly love is bad enough, but to be accused of manslaughter is just horrific - (especially if you are innocent - which, I personally think could be the case).
