13 year old dad - Teenage pregnancies now at highest rate in a decade

Earlier this year, Alfie Patten was thought to have become a father at 13 but the baby turned out not to be his. DNA tests later showed that another teen was the father.

Now a 13-year-old boy, (Only just a teen) is set to become one of the UK’s youngest dads after his 14-year-old girlfriend has become pregnant. Both live in Poole, Dorset.

The local authority has obtained a court order to stop the children in the latest case being identified.

Both teens attend the same school, the girl, who is several months pregnant, is in the year above the boy.

In 1998 Sean Stewart became Britain’s youngest known father at the age of just 12, his nextdoor neighbour Emma Webster, 15, gave birth to their baby in Bedfordshire.

Pregnancies among girls under 16, below the age of consent are at their highest since 1998. With most pregnancies under 18 ending in abortion.

The Government has tried to cut teenage pregnancies by handing out free contraceptives and expanding sex education.

Last year, the total number abortions in England and Wales topped 200,000 for the first time.
