Baby Boom Among Immigrants in the UK
A report released today shows the statistics on babies being born in the UK.
Almost a quarter of the babies that are born in the UK are being born to immigrant mothers who are not from the UK. This has risen from 2007 when it was 23% and is now over 24%.
There were 708,708 live births in 2008, which is the highest since 1973.
The report that was released today also showed that woman are now having an average of 1.95 babies, which is also the highest number since 1973. In 2007, the number was 1.92 on the average.
However, woman are still averaging less children than they were back in the 1960’s, when the average number of children was a whooping 2.63.
Over the last decade, the number of mothers giving birth over the age of 40 has almost doubled, going from 13,555 in 1998 to 26,419 in 2008.
